Comptroller General warns of “Fiscal Tsunami”

The followed article http://www.newsweek.com/id/70378 published by Newsweek strikes right at the very core of my own personal concerns for our country and its direction from a fiscal standpoint. 

Unlike our politicians who I perceive to be either unaware (unlikely) or avoiding (very likely) the very serious problems our country is facing, our comptroller general does not shy away from his responsibility to sound the wake up call that we all need. 

I won’t go into the details here, but I’d like to summarize a few of my thoughts:

1)  Like all great nations in history, we may very well be seeing the decline and fall of the United States if we do not take action

2) The signs are all there for anyone to see.  We have incredible debt, no savings, our infrastructure is failing, and our education system is….well, we all know where it is.

3) We have yet another opportunity during this election to give our elected officials a wake up call – will we rise to the occasion or go with the status quo?

Given the article mostly focuses on a few key areas of concern (healthcare, social security, etc), I might have deviated a bit with my comments above…but think they are all very much interrelated.  

 I very much appreciate what our comptroller is attempting to do (create awareness and promote dialogue on some very serious issues facing our country).  I hope people will pay attention and let their voice be heard…instead of just watching another episode of “The Biggest Loser”.

Yeah, I’m a bit fired up…
